Sarbanes Blasts EPA Administrator Pruitt as “Poster Child” for Abuse of Public Office [Video]
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – During a House Subcommittee on Environment hearing today, Democracy Reform Task Force Chair Rep. John Sarbanes (D-Md.) chastised U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt for abusing taxpayer dollars, using his office for private gain and jeopardizing public health to boost polluters’ profits.
“Yesterday, the Democracy Reform Task Force released another report in a series that’s looking at failures and ethical lapses within the Trump Administration,” Sarbanes said. “This one was detailing your wasteful spending and favors for your friends that put the interests of dirty polluters ahead of the American people.”
Sarbanes continued: “You’re wearing that mantle today. That office of public trust, as head of the EPA – something people care deeply about. If you’re gonna wear that mantle, you have to exercise the office with attention to the public interests and not to private interests. But unfortunately, you’ve become the poster child for the abuse of public trust.”
