WASHINGTON, D.C. – Democracy Reform Task Force Chair Rep. John Sarbanes (D-Md.) today led House Democrats in releasing a new report listing 400 ways that the Trump Administration’s has increased big money in politics, lobbying, backroom dealing and special-interest influence in Washington. The new report, “400 Ways in 400 Days: How the Trump Administration Keeps Flooding the Swamp in Washington,” builds on previous reports unveiled by the Democracy Reform Task Force in NovemberAugust and April of 2017.

“Instead of ‘draining the swamp,’ President Trump has become the worst swamp monster this town has ever seen,” said Democracy Reform Task Force Chair Rep. Sarbanes. “Under his watch, wealthy donors and well-connected special interests have more power than ever before. We must fight back against President Trump’s self-enriching regime and the Republican’s special-interest agenda, and return to government of, by and for the people.”

The new report highlights 400 ways that President Trump and his Administration have disregarded ethics laws and norms, eroded government accountability and increased corrupt self-dealing in our nation’s capital – after only 400 days in office.

This includes:

  • Making a mockery of ethics laws and regulations;
  • Promoting a culture of secrecy in the Executive Branch;
  • Stacking his cabinet with big-money campaign donors;
  • Installing a special-interest revolving door into the Trump White House;
  • Putting big money ahead of the public interest;
  • Turning the Presidency into a profit-making enterprise;
  • Pursuing public policy for his personal benefit; and
  • Raiding the treasury to pay for vacation & private business promotion.
